Whether you do 2 unit, Maths Extension 1, or Maths Extension 2, doing well in HSC mathematics requires a similar strategy. In this article, we will briefly look at what makes a successful HSC maths student, as well as some exam preparation techniques which would be relevant to students today, as most have their all-important HSC trials and HSC exams coming up in the next few weeks.

ATAR to Replace All UAI's 2009-06-25
The UAC announced earlier this month that the UAI system will be replaced by the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank). The conversion of UAI to ATAR aligns NSW's system of measuring HSC performance for the purpose of university admissions to that of other states. The ATAR will replace all UAI's, starting with the year 12 students in 2009, and will be a rank-based score out of 99.95 (instead of 100.00).
HSC Trials and the HSC Exams - Exam Preparation 2009-06-20
With most students having their HSC trials coming within a week or two, and with the actual HSC exams coming within a few weeks, good exam preparation skills are important if you want to ace your exams! We've posted a short article offering some general tips on what you can do to help yourself through this stressful period.
HSC scaling is a popular topic to HSC students and parents, and is often an area that is commonly misunderstood. Scaling is important as it affects all students aspiring to get into university after the HSC. A commonly misunderstood concept is the relationship between HSC marks and scaled marks.
HSC Chemistry is one of the most rewarding HSC subjects you can choose. In terms of scaling, Chemistry has consistently been the highest scaled HSC science course, compared to Physics and Biology.
Developing Good Study Habits For Your HSC 2009-04-11
Good study habits are essential to improving your HSC exam marks and achieving your highest potential UAI. There is such a thing as a healthy amount of study. Read on what are the most common bad habits during study, how to be self disciplined, how to keep yourself motivated and much more.
Classes start on the 7th of February 2009 for Term 1. If you enrol in the middle of term, your term fee will be in proportion to the number of remaining weeks.
Tips on Maths Extension 2 2009-01-21
Ever wondered how to get a raw mark of above 100/120 for Extension 2? This week we shed some insight on what it takes to get a state ranking for Extension 2.
How HSC Scaling works 2009-01-07
There are no secrets to scaling. All the information that can be known on the subject of scaling is publicly available, and anyone trying to sell this knowlegde to you aren't being upfront about it. There is a wealth of knowledge floating around on the internet about the subjects of scaling, aligning and moderation, some accurate and some mis-information. Our teaching staff has kindly put together some helpful articles on these subjects free for all to read. We go into some detail on the mathematical principles behind each process and why they necessary for a fair HSC. The bottom line is that knowledge of scaling, while interesting, will not help you in your own HSC (unless you are in year 10 or below, and have not yet selected your subjects) because the entire effect of scaling is predetermined once you've selected your subjects for Preliminary.

New Dux College site launch! 2008-10-02
www.duxcollege.com.au
After months in the making, our new website is finally ready for launch. For those of you who are techies, our site is a CMS with integrated student portal, student discussion forum and a complete backend system which manages all of our enrolment systems, student databases, teacher databases and file management needs (to upload homework, materials etc). The new system is modelled after UNSW's student portal, and will allow our students to manage their own enrolments for each term, download weekly materials and homework, and seek homework support through our integrated forums. Over the next few weeks we will be uploading our repository of past exam papers for mathematics / physics / chemistry and other subjects (even if they are not currently taught by us).
Over time, we will be adding new features to our backend system to give our students more value-added services such as research tools, scaling calculators, and an ever-growing selection of resources. Current students are welcome to post feedback on the new system, including ease of use, and any new features they would like in the future. Please email any queries about our system to admin at duxcollege.com.au
