English Advanced tutoring - year 11

Teaching method

Our Preliminary English Advanced tuition course aims to provide the following:

  • Early exposure to HSC-relevant prescribed texts
  • Develop the writing and analytical skills needed to succeed in HSC English
  • Familiarity with syllabus and rubric requirements, and how to craft essays that satisfy marking criteria
  • Familiarity with the specific requirements of each module: AOS, Modules A, B and C

Our teachers will show you how to analyse HSC-relevant prescribed texts, how to extract the relevant issues and synthesise them for use in a response. Model answers will be provided and discussed in class, to show students exactly how to satisfy the marking criteria. Students also get plenty of practice crafting their own responsesthe homework we set. Our homework questions are HSC-style exam questions, and reflect all the possible types of questions a student may face.

These factors are essential to success in HSC English, and early preparation is the key in outperforming your peers. Our classes aim to provide you with the best possible start for HSC English - our ultimate goal is to maximise your ATAR. Therefore, even though the texts we cover may not be the same combination set by your school for year 11, these texts are relevant to the HSC and are of greater value to your success in year 12.

Kirsten Miller - St Patrick's College Campbelltown, 2010
I found the example questions harder than our school tests so it was good to try both. The methods taught at Dux College were also easier to use than the ones taught at school.
