Preliminary Mathematics (2 unit) is a fun and rewarding course for those who are keen on maths. This class has no prerequisite knowledge and builds fundamental knowledge of many concepts used in the HSC. The 2 Unit class comprises of students who do not do Extension 1. If you are an Extension 1 student, you will need to attend the Extension classes only, as they will cover the 2 Unit material within their respective schedules.
During class, theory will be covered thoroughly by going through worked examples of the harder questions. The theory booklet will contain all the necessary notes, worked examples and helpful tips. We will also discuss exam technique and correct form when writing solutions. As with all levels of mathematics, the key to an exceptional mark is sufficient practice with a wide variety of questions. We also hold regular topic tests which covers recent content.
The Preliminary class aims to complete the course well ahead of school schedule, allowing time for revision and exam practice. Depending on class progress, some classes may touch on HSC content in the second half of the Preliminary year, to give our students a headstart.
Like all the other courses, we provide HSC exam style homework booklets for students to practice at home. Exposure to exam-style questions and exam conditions is the best preparation for the real thing. Questions will range in difficulty and marked according to a set criteria. The preliminary course focuses on building a strong fundamental from which to build on during the HSC year, so we focus on a wide variety of questions to reinforce students' fundamentals.
All of our homework questions will be marked and provided with teacher's comments and worked solutions where appropriate. Students are expected to use the discussion forums for homework assistance when they face any difficulty.
