Year 10 is an excellent time to start tutoring with us. Our philosophy behind HSC success is that it is never too early to begin preparing for the HSC.
Our philosophy is reflected by the fact that some highly acclaimed selective schools, like James Ruse, Baulkham Hills, Sydney High etc teach their Year 10 classes content that is well above the standard required for the School Certificate exams. How this is done is that while their teachers technically need to teach the Year 10 syllabus to their students, they expand on the content and go into depth where relevant to the HSC. While some may argue this is a controversial practice, we think this practice is GREAT, as teachers in these high-calibre schools also realise it is never too early to prepare their students for the HSC. Our Year 10 Headstart Programs adopt the same view, and are designed to introduce and familiarise Year 10 students to HSC-relevant theory while it is still early days. Year 10 is also a CRITICAL TIME to a student's future, as it is the time when students choose their HSC subjects. Therefore, students should understand how HSC scaling works, as it should definitely influence their subject selection if they are serious about scoring a high ATAR. All our teachers are experts on HSC scaling and we will provide in-depth guidance to our students on how HSC subject scaling will affect their end result after Year 12. Why Headstart? In addition to the points raised above, there are many benefits to devoting some time in Year 10 to prepare for the HSC: A solid foundation: building a SOLID and correct foundation of core concepts early on in the student's schooling is of extreme importance to HSC success. Often we find that students who join us half-way through Year 12 have many issues and misconceptions of basic concepts, and this poses a serious limitation on further learning. Increased familiarity: the earlier students are introduced to concepts, the more familiar they will become by the time HSC-assessable (important) exams come. Building excellent habits early on: our past Headstart students have commented not only on how learning ahead has helped them ace their exams, but also the benefit of getting into a good study habit early on. A strong work ethic and learning effective study techniques early on is extremely helpful to achieving your HSC goals.
Is the School Certificate Important?
Since students who are serious about doing well and getting into University will not consider leaving school after Year 10, the School Certificate is of negligible importance. Year 10 students and their parents need to gain perspective of the bigger picture, and realise that time in Year 10 is better spent preparing for the HSC, rather than worrying about the School Certificate. However, this does not mean our students score low bands in their SC. Rather, our Year 10 students find their school work and School Certificate exams trivially easy after coming to us where they learn beyond the Year 10 syllabus and develop a solid foundation on concepts that are useful to their HSC. The bottom line: if you intend on getting a HSC and going to University afterwards, then the School Certificate is of nil importance to your future. Why choose us for Year 10
What sets us apart from our competitors is our Year 10 Headstart programs are designed from ground up, with the goal of HSC success. Most other Year 10 programs out there will merely teach and reinforce the Year 10 syllabus, without any explicit goal of being HSC-relevant. If you are deciding between us and other places, we suggest you do your research and think about what your goals are. Remember, our goal is simply to help you maximise your HSC results and ATAR. |
